Supergirl/Smallville Fic: The Wordsmiths

Because of all of the horrible news about Allison Mack, I decided to focus on the awesomeness that is Chloe Sullivan--that can never be taken from us--so here is a 290 word Supergirl drabble for the Numbers Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] 1_million_words    ENJOY!!

Kara never noticed it before, but Clark had written the phone number down in Kryptonese.

When she’d first arrived on Earth,
Clark had barely understood the Krptonian language, in verbal or written form, but with Kara’s gift of gab and the teaching crystals in the Fortress of Solitude, Clark had quickly mastered it.

After taking up their superhero identities, the cousins realized that there might come a time where they would need to communicate information for their eyes only, so the obvious solution was for them to would write out the message in the language of their home planet.

Which was why Kara now held in her hand, Chloe Sullivan’s phone number, Clark’s best friend from Smallville and one of his closest and most relied upon allies.  She’d helped Clark countless times over their life long friendship and Kara knew that if Clark trusted her, she could trust her.

Chloe was also one of the best investigative reporters The Daily Planet ever had and a big part of Kara just wanted to call Chloe to pick her brain about journalism.

But there was more to Chloe’s story because she was also married to Lex Luthor and the sister in law to Lena and Kara was having a hard time reconciling her need to know what her best friend was hiding and her intuitive fear that Lena was in real danger and needed her help to get out of it.

Kara knew from Lena’s own words just how much she adored Chloe and the super-heroine couldn’t quite shake the feeling that she was massively over stepping her bounds by calling Lena’s beloved “sister.”

Mind made up, Kara opened up her contacts and pressed the call button.

“Daily Planet.”

“Extension 454, please.”
