H50 Episode 3.6

Just give Scott and Alex the Emmy already!

Man oh man, but that was an intense episode.  I loved how much it highlighted the obvious devotion the McDanno have for each other.  Danny tried to stop Steve from coming any closer when he realized the bad guy had a bomb strapped to him, and Steve’s complete refusal to leave Danny when there was a chance the bomb might explode was truly gorgeous to see.

I also loved that while Danny wanted Steve to give Grace a message for him,  Steve steadfastly refused to even think that Danny wouldn’t be alive to continue being her dad.  And it says a lot that Danny wants Steve to be Grace’s father figure if anything were to happen to him.  Stan’s a good person, but it’s Steve Danny wants to look out for his Monkey.  Again, truly lovely to see.

The Newark flashbacks were extremely well done and I especially liked that Danny’s always been such a fabulous combo of tough cop/smart ass mixed in with a loyal and caring man.  I was kind of hoping his partner would pull a badass move/distraction right at the end which would help Danny to get the upper hand on the bad guys, but her getting shot was just so horrifying.  And I love that Danny named his daughter after his partner—that was rather beautiful.

The father/daughter dance was too cute and I loved Grace’s little face looking up at her dad—she’s a true Williams because she can read her father’s emotions and she knows when he’s upset and she did her best to comfort him.  And how cute was Danny’s twirling Grace around the floor and the grin on her face was just adorable and how pretty did she look in her pink dress?

I liked both Catherine and Danny busting on Steve when he first called her—everyone knows you’re calling for a favor Steve, no need for the flirtation.  I do have to ask if Catherine is staying at the Hilton and exactly how long is her leave?  The show needs to address Catherine’s job situation because right now it’s a tad bit strange that she has all of this free time to help Steve whenever he needs her.

And poor Steve having to listen to Doris going on about what a super-awesome spy she is and how with her amazing skills she could crack the case single-handedly.  I liked Steve’s ‘well with all of those skills, you can find a place to hide.’  No one’s impressed, Doris.

Lastly, I loved the tie in to Sept. 11th both in the present case and the flashback and seeing the smoke billowing from the Twin Towers was just devastating.  And I liked Danny’s mentioning living on borrowed time and how the threat of terrorism is such a fact of all of our lives now.

A very well done episode.

I'll be the girl incapable of forming her own thoughts here and just say ditto.

I really think this was the best episode of the series :)
