H50 Episode 3.10 Now this is the show I adore!

A completely awesome episode—my second favorite this season-- and everyone got to be cool:

Steve was cracking me up when he was teaching the girls about kill zones and what to do if a wild animal charges you.  And his throwing his knife into the tree was beyond badass—no wonder the girls “oohhed” and “aahhed.”  I liked that he kept Lucy calm but at the same time he was deliberately rattling Tom Arnold’s character.  And I love that he finally showed how angry he was after he punched Tom Arnold—his face was so enraged at the jackass who shot Danny and kidnapped Lucy and he was ten seconds from shooting him

Danny’s reaction to Steve’s “survival tips” was very well played but just like that, the two of them snap right back into cop mode when people are in trouble.  Danny tried to keep the bad guy calm but he was already high-strung when he started waving his gun around but it was all worth it to see Steve go into protective mode when Danny go shot.  I also liked that Danny was able to keep the girls calm and that they all worked together to get out of the shed and call for help.

The Danny/Grace moments were superb and I especially loved this exchange:

Danny:  How we doing, Gracie?

Grace:  (muffled voice) I found a worm!

anny:  Don't worry, Monkey, it won't hurt you.

I also liked the glimpse we got of Danny's new place--a definite step up from S1 and S2 :)

I give the show credit for hiring an actress who wasn’t a stick figure to play the troop leader.  She was snarky and cool and helped Danny track down the bad guy.  I’d like to see her return.

The little actress who played Lucy was spot on.  She sold me on her fear but also on her trust that Steve would save them.  Plus, I like that she’s planning on marrying Steve when she grows up—I don’t blame her but she needs to get in line:)  And Steve now has a growing collection of tiny blondes with massive crushes on him—first Danny and now Lucy.  Who’s next?

And Chin’s coming to the rescue was great but I especially liked his staying with Lucy when he found her.  He knew that Danny was more than up to the challenge of getting Steve away from the bad guy.

I also liked that we got to see more of the Adam/Kono relationship and that Adam is so determined to legitimize his dad’s criminal enterprises, but it seems Michael isn’t onboard with the plan.

All in all, this was an awesome episode.

I'm with you on the troup leader (big surprise). I mean, I know it's Hawaii and they want to show hot people, but even in background scenes you never see anyone "normal."

And I liked that she was shown to be strong and competent and not played as a fool or squeamish. The show needs more normal looking people for their recurring characters.
