Another Snow Storm--is it Spring yet?

So here in the Northeast, we are preparing for our 14th snowstorm this season, and I'm kind of done.  I don't think I can actually take any more shoveling, so I'm going to post five things I'm excited about and/ or looking forward to:

1. I adore Lent, because it forces me to actually give up chocolate and attempt to be healthier and I especially love that in the days before Lent you're practically encouraged to gorge yourself on sweets because then we're supposed to deprive ourselves for 40 days.

2.  And speaking of Lent, I love attending the Stations of the Cross every Friday night.  It's such a beautiful depiction of what Jesus went through and it helps us to understand--plus we gain an indulgence, which is awesome.  Also, my favorite station will forever be Veronica wiping the face of Jesus--GORGEOUS!

3.  As much as I love the Olympics, I'm glad that my shows are back and I especially love that not only do I have Elementary back but now Hannibal is back on the air and I am looking forward to watching Will figure out a way to prove Dr. Lecter's guilt and put him away.  Also, the fight sequence between Jack Crawford and Dr. Lecter looks beyond badass.

4.  I am reading a new mystery series by Margaret Frazer:  the detective is a nun, Dame Frevisse and the stories are all set in the Middle Ages in England.  Damn inventive because the author mixes the harsh reality of life back then with true historical facts--so you get a history lesson and a detective story :)

5.  I am truly looking forward to Spring and now that we are in March, I know we are getting closer and closer :)

On the bright side the totals keep dropping, now only 2-4 in.

Ours is now 3 to 6 inches which makes me extremely happy but now I feel horrible for South Jersey--a foot and a half of snow--YIKES!

I totally use Lent as my tool. See, I want to do good and healthy things, but find it hard to do without that lil bit of guilt helping me along. When I make promises to the big guy, I keep em!

That's right, we can lie to ourselves and to each other, but not to God :):)

I feel for y'all, I really do. Last year, we were the ones having crazy-ass weather!

Like many, I am giving up chocolate for Lent. I had 3 chocolate bunnies on Sunday afternoon, so that's me done for the next six weeks or so!

Loving Elementary. Definitely my best show at the moment.

I am so glad that you like Elementary--it is damn enjoyable :)

And I am obsessed with the Cadbury cream eggs--they are addictive :)

You should try Malteaster Bunnies. You haven't lived until you've had a Malteaster Bunny. :-)

Urg, the snow. I remember the first time I had to shovel my car out of a snowbank when I first moved to Pennsylvania, and thinking (and panting), "Okay, well, that wasn't the end of the world. It's not so bad." When I did for the 30th time, I was fuming so much about the bleepity-bleeping snow, I could have just stood there and melted it from the hot waves of hatred that were pouring off of me. So I feel your pain!

But, as you said, spring is on its way. The one great thing about winter is that it can't last forever!

I kind of feel guilty about Lent (hey, I feel guilty, so that makes me a good Catholic on that alone, har-har). People in New Orleans throw this big party that is Mardi Gras (which is today, in fact- Happy Mardi Gras!)because we claim we're about to enter the period of deprivation. Wrong! During Lent, we then celebrate with crawfish boils, the St. Patrick's Day parade, the Irish-Italian Parade, St. Joseph's Day, and the Italian-American parade- all which require partying and copious amounts of food. Seriously, we've turned the non-deprivation of Lent into an art form. ;-)

I love your description of a crime-fighting nun in the book you're reading! Did you ever watch the "Cadfael" mysteries from the BBC, about the crime-fighting monk? LOVE Derek Jacobi (although I can no longer watch him without also thinking of his "Frasier" episode when he played the bad actor doing Hamlet, "I... DIE... HORTATIO! *long, protracted gasping* LOL)

Ah yes, Snow. Yet another four letter word :) I could seriously punch out anyone who tells me "But I love snow" UUGGHH!!

I loved your description of New Orleans--I kind of got the feeling that Mardi Gras wasn't just the week before Lent but literally 24/7, 365 days a year :):) It really makes me want to visit! :)

I have heard of the "Cadfael" mysteries but never saw them--I shall have to check them out--and I agree that Derek Jacobi is a wonderfully talented actor. One of my favorite roles of his was in Dead Again--he was nice and insane in that one :)

For Lent I give up using my credit card,  It really forces me to think about my next purchase if all I have is cash.  I also give up soda... except on Sunday....then I feast.  I like Stations too,  I think I was 11 when I learned about them.   And at the time I got mad that I would have to learn them.  It was as an adult that I truly found an appreciation.

Man, not using your credit card is pretty hardcore, simply because you have to have cash on hand constantly, but good for you!

Thanks!
