BBC Sherlock Drabble--The Surprise

John entered the kitchen of 221B with trepidation. He glanced around cautiously before moving towards the stove.
He picked up the lid of the saucepan and enhaled deeply. ‘Chicken Teriyaki, my favorite,’ he whispered to himself.
What was Sherlock playing at? And where was the mad genius?
Just then he heard a light step on the stairs and a soft voice humming a happy tune. Sherlock appeared in the doorway, a bottle of wine in his hands.
He looked momentarily startled and then crestfallen. “You’re home early, and you ruined my surprise.”
John smiled uncertainly, “A surprise?”
“Happy Birthday, John.”
