Just read that Stan Lee, the genius behind some of Marvel comics best superheroes, has passed away.  The man was 95 years old and if I live that long, I hope I'm that feisty and full of life--may  he rest in peace.

My dear friends, there are two things I need to get off my chest.

Venting! )

I had the great privilege to walk across London Bridge when I visited that awesome city, and you feel a part of the great history behind the city and gorgeous bridge.  I can just imagine the fear of all of the innocent people who just happened to be there—my prayers are with all of the victims and their families.

My prayers are with the victims and their families of this horrible act of terrorism in the U.K.  I have no doubt that British law enforcement will have the bad guys rounded up in no time.  Stay vigilant everyone.

My thoughts and prayers are going out the victims of today's terror attacks in London--I have this special affinity with this lovely city, it's brave people and their awesome country and I just want people to be safe and happy and able to live their lives.  God Save the Queen :)

Man, but this is the summer for strange, tragic deaths: Anton Yelchin, 27, dies in a weird car accident.  He is best known for playing Ensign Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek series and I know the third movie is coming out in July.  How absolutely horrendous for his family and friends--my prayers are with them all.

My prayers go out to the victims and their families of this horrible shooting.  I wish the media wouldn't post sentences like "deadliest shooting in US history"  or words to that effect because for the majority of us, it's horrifying, but for the violent, it's a sick bar they'll want to surpass.

Also, the shooter should be identified once in the media and then his name nor his picture should ever be mentioned again.  The pictures of the people he killed and hurt should be shown, not the killer's.

Oh man, Patty Duke has passed away at 69.  I remember watching reruns of The Patty Duke Show and loving that she played identical cousins and of course she was wonderful in the film version of The Miracle Worker as Anne Sullivan to Melissa Gilbert's Helen Keller and equally brilliant when she was Helen to Anne Bancroft's Anne--I bet it was also treat to see her version of Helen Keller when she was on Broadway when she was a young girl.

My prayers are with her and her family.

The Danish Girl is a brilliantly acted movie—seriously, Alicia Vikander and Eddie Redmayne need to win every award under the sun—but it's also emotionally exhausting to watch.  The tragedy of Lili’s life breaks your heart but then Gerda’s personal strength is an absolute revelation.  A truly excellent film :)

Here is the news story about Jared from Subway.  I think one of the things that floors me about this case is that he received the child porn from the director of his charitable foundation.  How did Jared know this man was as much of a sick pedophile as he was?  How do you even begin to find that info out?  Either way, I'm glad both men have been caught, arrested and will hopefully be treated in prison as well as all of the children they hurt.

Now the engineer has "no recollection of the crash"--I guess if I was responsible for eight people's deaths and the injuries of countless of others, I'd try and "forget" too,  Jackass.

My prayers are with the victims and their families of this horrible train accident in Port Richmond.  How terrified those poor people must have been.

I adored Peter Pan.  I though Allison Williams did an excellent job as Peter—unlike a certain country music star, Allison can actually sing and act which is a must for a musical theater production.

For the most part the Darling family were wonderful—the parents were pitch perfect as were the young boys playing John and Michael but the actress playing Wendy was trying too damn hard to be earnest.  Christopher Borle in the dual role of Mr. Darling and the pirate Smee was particularly a revelation.  He stole every scene he was in and did you see the muscles on that man’s arms?  WOO HOO!!

The dance sequences involving The Lost Boys, pirates and Tiger Lily's tribe were excellent and definitely Broadway caliber.

I’m worried about Christopher Walken because he looked quite ill.  He was strangely pale and he seemed almost lethargic in his scenes.

Overall, it was a lovely presentation.

Now onto the bad: )

First, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Natahn Cirillo and I hope my Canadian neighbors stand strong against this new wave of terrorism.

And second, I have now completed two days of the dreaded 11 day stupid job coverage--I swear the drama is going to kick my ass :):)

I know that today has now been deemed Patriot Day and that it's the 13th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on 9/11, but I need to actually talk about a tragic event that happened two weeks ago, the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.

More behind the cut... )

It is very tragic that a man who brought so much joy and laughter in other people’s lives had such a difficult time finding his own happiness.  I have no doubt that his family are in deep shock and my thoughts and prayers go out to them.  I’m also going to pray for Robin’s soul as well—may he rest in peace.  Now I think we need to remember just how brilliant he was, so I ask you:   what are your favorite Robin Williams’ characters?
Here are mine: )

My prayers are with the families of all of the poor people on board that Malaysian flight and I also feel for the people of the Ukraine.  The UN needs to be allowed near the crash site so they can mount a proper investigation.  This is not good.
kitmerlot_1213: (SV/Chloe/Thoughtful)
My prayers go out to all of the people and their families hurt in the explosions--a definite act of terrorism but is it domestic or international?  What an incredibly tragic day.
kitmerlot_1213: (4th of July)
I've said it before but today of all days, it needs repeating:  the people aboard Flight 93 were completely and totally badass.

I have a special place in my heart for the people on that flight.  I just think about their realizing that they were going to die and their determination not to let other innocent people die with them, and then their deciding "to do something about it" was one of the bravest things imaginable.

God bless the souls of the innocent 2973 victims who died in the attacks, God bless their families and God Bless America.
kitmerlot_1213: (Alex/Scott interview)
My prayers go out to the victims and their families and I don't think I can quite grasp that 12 people have died and over 50 people were shot because they decided to go to the movies.  I wonder if we will ever get answers from the shooter--I should say that answers that make any kind of sense.
