Oh man, I was going to see the I, Tonya movie but now I don't think I can--I hadn't realized the film was trying to make Tonya into a victim.
I'm with Johnny Weir, Nancy is the only victim in this story.

First, Ice Dancing:  as much as I love my Shib sibs, I adore Hubbell and Donohue and I love that H/D are in second place over the wretched Chock and Bates.  I would be okay if either the Shibs or H/D won Nationals--the teams are both wonderful in their own individual way..

Second, I am massively proud of Mirai Nagasu and Karen Chen for giving us such gorgeously emotional and well skated long programs.  I do not like Bradie Tennel, she is too much of an ice princessy technician with zero heart or artistry. and I also think the judges were ridiculous in their obviously pushing her--Bradie's component scores were higher then Mirai, Karen and Ashley Wagner who are beautifully artistic and anyone with eyes can see that Bradie is as stiff as a board when it comes to emotions.

Third,I am looking forward to an excellent men's competition.  Go Nathan and Adam :)

The Ladies short program is always intense and I couldn't be prouder of Karen Chen, Mirai Nagasu and Ashely Wagner for putting down excellent programs and for truly showing up to compete--I wish I knew what was troubling Gracie Gold because she's just as good as any of the other skaters.  She just has to believe it.  Fingers crossed that all four women have excellent Free Skates tonight :)

And as always in ice dancing, I hope the Shibutani's continue to dominate and kick the crap out of Chock and Bates :)  In fact I would love it if Hubbell and Donohue won the silver, putting Chock and Bates in 3rd :):)

ETA:  Congratulations to Karen Chen, Ashley Wagner and Mariah Bell for giving us such a great competition--this will be one heck of a team going to Worlds :)

Yes, we are at the wonderful beginning of a new skating season and I couldn't be happier :):)  I just finished watching the Ladies Free skate at Skate America, and I couldn't be prouder that we had two Americans winning the gold and the silver.  Ashley Wagner and Mariah Bell put forth two excellent programs, showed that they are true competitors and that they are a force to be reckoned with internationally.  Gracie Gold, on the other hand, makes me concerned for her health and overall happiness.  She looks drained and does not appear to want to actually be there--perhaps it's time to visit a sports psychologist.
kitmerlot_1213: (AM's play)
I am so proud of Ashley Wagner's silver medal finish at the ladies free skate and like Johnny and Tara said, Ashley showed up at Boston to fight, she showed up to compete and she threw it down.  WOO HOO!!!
kitmerlot_1213: (The Flash/Barry Allen)
I am loving how much coverage NBC is giving us for the World Figure Skating Championships but man, Tracy Wilson is as freakin’ obnoxious as Sandra Bezic ever was.  Just shut up and go back to commentating in Canada, you hack!   I’m proud of the Shibutanis for winning the silver medal in ice dancing and I’m also pulling for our American skaters Gracie Gold and Ashley Wagner, and I also want Mao Asada to do well too.  Can’t wait for the girls free skate tonight :)

I also need to talk about my TV shows: )
kitmerlot_1213: (Davis/White US Dance Champions)
Well it's now about 6pm EST and while it's still snowing, I still have power, so I'm doing well :):)  And while I love that I'm warm and dry, what I'm really loving the most is watching my US Ice Skating Nationals and of course, I have some gloating to do :):)

Spoiler Alert:):) )
kitmerlot_1213: (Alex's phone)
Alright it is now 10am EST, the snow is falling, the wind is blowing and we are smack dab in the middle of the Nor'easter and I am thrilled that we have power/heat/internet--YEAH!!  And I hope the power continues to stay on because today is the US Ice Skating Nationals--a double WOO HOO!!  :):)

Please keep all of us in the path of this snowstorm in your thoughts and prayers.
kitmerlot_1213: (The Flash/Barry Allen)
So much to talk about regarding my favorite TV shows but I would like to take a minute to talk about how impressed I am by France’s reactions to the Parisian terror attacks.  I am proud of them for rallying so quickly and acting so decisively against the bad guys.  Good for them and Viva la France!

My squeeing over Hamlet and ice skating--What? :) )

My squeeing over my super-awesome TV shows: Supergirl, Blindspot, The Flash, The Blacklist and Elementary )
kitmerlot_1213: (SV/Chloe/Pretty)
Well my friends, we have another US Ladies Champion :):)  And Johnny and Tara prove with their witty and knowledgeable banter that they are the figure skating commentating dream team :)

Allow me to squee :):) )
kitmerlot_1213: (actress icon/Jen Lilley)
Woo hoo, the Ladies Free Skate is tonight!   Allow me to squeee :):) )
kitmerlot_1213: (The Caans)
I am enjoying the crap out of Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir doing the commentating for US figure skating competitions--the Grand Prix has never been this interesting and fascinating.  They are knowledgeable, funny and just blend together perfectly as a team.  Take that Bezic--you suck :):)

I have decided to attempt to bake a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving this year--wish me luck :):)
kitmerlot_1213: (Monster hugs)
First, I hope everyone is well and having a lovely Sunday.  This September 2nd will be the five year anniversary of my dad's death and I think I've finally made peace with it, and I'm also past my anger at my dad's two younger brothers.  That's progress I think.

Randomness ahoy! :):) )
kitmerlot_1213: (Benedict/red)
but I’m okay with the top three finishers at the ladies event—the only problem I have has to do with Adelina’s being so over-scored.  I mean, the judges should make an attempt to make it less obvious.  But then again, Yuna Kim was over-marked in Vancouver, so you live by the sword, you die by the sword.  I also think Yuna was following the Michelle Kwan way off thinking, in that “All I have to do is stay vertical and I’ll win gold”, forgetting that there are younger skaters behind her, doing technically more difficult programs.

I also have to wonder why Tara and Johnny hate Ashley Wagner as much as they do.  Scotty and Bezic were infinitely fairer to her and that just freaks me out.  I get that the USFSA wants Gracie Gold to be their new face, to be their Number# 1 skater, but they don’t have to be quite so awful to Ashley.

I am proud of how well our Americans did and I'm glad that Mao was able to finish up with such a lovely free skate.

Holy crap, major crap is happening at the Men's Short programs at the Olympics:

Spoilers behind the cut... )
kitmerlot_1213: (Davis/White US Dance Champions)
Holy cow but watching US Nationals this past weekend was insane!

My ice skating squeeing--be warned :):) )

I also need to state just how awesome Elementary has been this season and I especially like that Moriarty continues to be diabolical and Sherlock and Joan continue to be a brilliant team working together to solve crimes and watch each other’s backs.  Lastly, I cannot wait for season three of Sherlock—I will watch it on PBS because I can’t download and watch it on my computer.  My screen is just too damn little and I want to catch every expression on Sherlock and John’s faces when they finally meet up again.
kitmerlot_1213: (The Caans)

I’m ready and willing to give Scott Caan a pass on his “attack on Hawaii” for one simple reason—it hasn’t even been six months since his mother passed away.  I know the first year after my father’s death felt like a fog and I’m sure I said things that were deemed inappropriate.  In other words, give the poor man a break.  He’s going through a lot and I have no doubt that he didn’t mean any harm.

Let the randomness begin :) )
kitmerlot_1213: (Veronica Mars/plotting)

I am thrilled that skating has begun again but Sandra Bezic has got to go as a commentator.  I especially loved how Scotty Hamilton pwned her ass when they were calling the Mens' Free Skate.  Bezic starts whining that the non-North American skaters were having a hard time getting used to the NHL sized rinks--they're used to Olympic sized rinks--and Scotty points out that the skater she was making excuses for was actually an American skating for Japan who grew up 100 miles from where the competition was being held.  Bezic stupidly responds back with a "I guess you're right!"

Shut up Bezic before you look like even more of an idiot.

My rambling skating opinions )

This is a mini-rant against Sandra Bezic--you have been warned :)
