Back from my Saturday in NYC and it was a freakin' madhouse but the play was excellent.
I saw the play Brief Encounter which was based on the Noel Coward play Still Life. A play based on a play? See, when the play was made into a film it was renamed Brief Encounter, so that when the play was revived, the producers kept the new name.
The production was very clever with a minimalist set and the actors on stage were singing and playing the instruments themselves. And the neatest thing of all was that the songs they were singing were also written by Noel Coward--damn, but talk about multitalented :)
There weren't any famous theater actors in it, but I predict big things for two of the players: the male lead, Tristan Sturrock, and the character actress, Annette McLaughlin were simply outstanding. I wouldn't be surprised to see either of them nominated for a Tony Award in the bear future.
