Okay we have a new pope—I like that he’s from Argentina and a man of the people and I especially like that he picked the name Francis. Pope Frank sounds kind of tough which I approve of—of course an Irish priest from New York would be the toughest around, but I’m still good with it:) May God bless him and I hope he does a good job of leading the church.
Now enough of the real world, it’s time to talk about TV:
I didn’t really comment on the last episode of Hawaii Five-0 because I don’t follow football or know any of the football players they were talking about and I didn’t actually know any of the guest stars people were gushing about. I did like how extraordinarily kind Steve and Catherine were to Danny—they are both good friends to the Jersey native and I think Danny was touched that Catherine thought to get him an autographed football and that Steve went out of his way to get him to the stadium and to run a professional play with him—adorable.
I do have to admit that the recent Twitter debacle didn’t do Michelle Borth any favors. Scott Caan angered the fans by voicing his dislike of living in Hawaii when he was on a talk show, and when SC learned that he upset so many people, he immediately apologized and then kept a low profile. Michelle Borth went out of her way to tweet a sarcastic response to a fan who didn’t like Catherine’s involvement in an upcoming episode and when another fan pointed out to MB how rude she was to a fan who disliked the fictional character she played, Borth didn’t apologize but continued to be rude.
At first I was surprised that MB was so unprofessional and rather thin-skinned about people disliking Catherine, but after seeing the previews for the upcoming H50 episode, I think she’s defensive about her role on the show because she realizes that the writers never really had a plan on how to integrate her character with the other Five-0 crew and now she’s left with making “sexy” appearances.. I think the show was banking on people liking Michelle more because she fit in better than Lauren German—Michelle has chemistry with Alex, she’s believable in action sequences and she looks good in jean shorts and in her Navy uniform and that was all the show cared about.
The writers don’t seem to really have a purpose for Catherine besides randomly showing up at Steve’s house, doing favors for him, and sometimes wearing sexy outfits. Max, Fong and Kamekona are also side characters but they have a definite purpose on the show while Catherine does not and I’m a person who likes the character. I would just like to see Catherine have more to do then be put in ridiculous undercover scenes.
On Elementary, I like how Joan and Sherlock have earned their new partnership. We watched how Sherlock began to rely on Watson for her medical expertise and unfailing support through their cases. We watched as Joan and Sherlock both realized that she had the makings of a great detective and that he started helping her to hone that natural ability. I also hope that Irene Adler is truly dead, that Mycroft and/or Sherlock’s dad, will make an appearance on the show and I don’t think Morairty should show up until S2.
On BBC’s Sherlock, I want Sherlock to work to earn John’s trust back after the fall—John should not forgive him instantly because John went through hell watching Sherlock die and that kind of pain isn’t easily gotten over. I hope to see Mary Morstan and that she’s kind and caring and an awesome woman who rolls her eyes but smiles encouraging when John runs off to accompany Sherlock at crime scenes.
I also kind of hope the show has Sebastian Moran and John knowing each other in the army and that they are both aware of the others reputations as sharpshooters and dead shots. We need to see more glimpses of what a badass John is.
