My fellow Catholic friends will appreciate this insanity: My mom received a rosary in the mail, and guess what: there's a 4th decade now.
There is now the Luminous Mysteries.
After how many years of there only being 3 decades to the rosary, the Pope's added a 4th.
I swear that Pope Benedict has lost his damn mind.

Date: 2009-09-12 11:54 pm (UTC)Actually, JP2 started that, Benedict just sent it through finally (because everything takes years with the Vatican. I'm still waiting for them to take a stand on Medjugorje. Not that they have to. The Bishop took his stand and... blah, blah, won't get into that).
I feel weird about it, too. But things are bound to change in the church every fifty years or so. People probably felt the same when Vatican 2 got rid of the Latin mass and changed the dress code.

Date: 2009-09-13 12:08 am (UTC)I don't think Benedict is as lovable as John Paul. He seems to be more of a dry academic whereas John Paul had a sort of poet's soul. But he is moving on some things (slowly like all things relating to the Vatican). He's weeding out corruption, it seems and not letting things slide. I don't like him quite as much as JP, but I respect him, if that makes sense.
