Brian and Sharon Xavier couldn’t have been more different if they tried and the lessons they taught their son were just as mismatched.

Brian impressed upon Charles a love for science and research and that it was a scientists’ vocation to improve the lives of all of those around them.  He especially wanted Charles to understand that it was the responsibility of the financially well off to help those in need.

While Brian encouraged his son to be compassionate and kind, his mother Sharon taught Charles high society’s rules and regulations.

By the time Charles was eight, he’d learnt the following:  always write thank you notes, never ask for a toothpick at the dinner table and the correct way to address royalty.

But what Sharon was convinced Charles needed to truly understand was the importance of choosing the correct country club.

“Now Charles, The Brynwood Country Club only has two hundred and thirty members, so you only get asked to join if someone either dies or is asked to leave.”

Sharon turned to beam at her husband approvingly as Brian shook his head.  “And luckily for us, your father’s family has had admittance at the Brynwood since 1955.”

Charles nodded thoughtfully as his mother continued to speak, but privately he thought, with the exception of his dad, that the majority of the 230 members were massively dull.

He decided to investigate exactly how a member could get thrown out of the Brynwood.

Charles had a feeling his dad would approve.
