This is a 325 word The Flash drabble--featuring a female Cisco (just go with it:):)—for the Numbers Challenge at
1_million_words ENJOY!!
“How can a mechanical engineer have such tiny hands?”
Francesca Ramon, Cisco to her friends, raised a contemptuous eyebrow at Harry’s disbelieving tone.
Any normal day at S.T.A.R Labs would find Harrison Wells and Cisco sitting next to each other while they worked together on an upgrade to Barry or Jesse’s suit or inventing some kind of tech to defeat the bad guys.
They would often banter back and forth, the mild insults behind their words hiding their exasperated fondness for each other and it was all very predictable. Cisco couldn’t lie to herself that a part of her enjoyed their witty repartee but today? Today Harry reached new depths in confusing the hell out of her.
“I take it there weren’t many female mechanical engineers on Earth 2?”
Harry shook his head, laughing slightly at Cisco’s annoyed voice. “Oh I had women engineers working at my lab, but they weren’t anything like you. They weren’t nearly as clever as you, they didn’t have your sweetness or your good humor, they weren’t as delicately pretty and their hair didn’t smell distractingly good.”
Cisco paused, her surprise as evident as Harry’s as the full weight of his words penetrated her brain, her mind doing a three hundred and fifty degree turn into mini-freak out mode. ‘Pretty’ and ‘sweet’ and “clever were running through her brain and who didn’t like hearing that they smelled good?
But before Cisco could ask Harry if he meant everything he just said, Barry sped into their workroom. “Guys, we’ve got an attempted kidnapping at 13th and Almond and the bad guy can turn invisible.”
She nodded, “We’ll be right there,” but Harry had already leaped to his feet and followed Barry to the cortex, clearly not ready to talk about what he’d said.
Truthfully, Cisco wasn’t quite ready to talk either, preferring to quietly squee that a man she admired and thought the world of clearly felt the same for her.
