So much love for the Hawaii Five-0 premiere.
The Fearsome Foursome were as epically badass as they were in S1 and I like all of the new chinks in their armour. I like seeing Kono have to fight for her job and Chin's devastation that he's the cause of her pain, I like seeing Steve question his father's motivations in dealing with Wo Fat and I even like seeing Danny's pain over Rachel.
The McDanno bromance was just as strong as ever and I like that the writers didn't have Steve angry at Danny's plans to leave. Danny has always been aboout Grace and "where she goes I go" so Steve knows and understands that. And I think the fact that Danny was there in Hawaii helping him and not back in Jersey was all the proof that Steve needed that Danny will always be there for him. And I also think that's what prompted Rachel's return to Stan.
Speaking of which, how glad am I that the affair/pregnancy story line was resolved in rapid succession? The baby's Stan's and she's coming back to Hawaii to make her second marriage work.--end of story. Danny now needs to make a conscious effort to move on with his life. He and Rachel can be good co-parents to Grace and eventually friends but it's time to let his dream of the Williams' family getting back together go. IF he continues to have that hope in the back of his head, Rachel will always have power of him and he will never be happy.
I like Rachel and I hope we get to see her this season and get to watch her and Danny interact more, but what I really want is to see her watch Danny move on with his life. She's made her choices and while she's doing the right thing for her new baby, I hate that Danny's been hurt again because of a decision she's made. She holds all of the power because of Grace and I hope she's able to finally make peace with her and Danny's past and look forward to all of their futures in Hawaii.
I do have to wonder where Stan's self-esteem is though. Would you take back someone who was ready and willing to run off with their first spouse? He can help raise his baby without being married to Rachel--I wonder if we will see Stan again as well.
And the best surprise of all: Jenna Kaye's working with Wo Fat. Making her evil is a stroke of genius because I don't think she quite fit in as the eager-beaver analyst. I like that she was trying so hard to win over Five-0 not because she lacks social skills but were supposed to find her charming anyway, but because she was working Wo Fat's agenda. And let's think back, how much of her story was verified? Steve was able to pull her CIA file but Jenna herself told the story of the dead fiancee, and now I wonder who on the team will expose her as the mole?
All in all, I think the season got off to a great start and I can't wait for more :)
