I haven't done one these posts in ages:

1. I saw the play Terra Nova today and it was damn riveting. The play was about Captain Robert Scott's doomed expedition to Antarctica and to add to the drama, it was actually 100 years to the month that the poor man and his team died of exposure/gangrene/starvation.  My dad would have loved this play because he was always fascinated by the Antarctic and read everything he could on the subject.

2.  My boss John is getting his butt kicked by his new boss and all I am loving watch him squirm.  He is getting called on all of his numerous lies and being held accountable for all of his crap.  It’s a beautiful thing to see and I truly love that I have recourse to going over John’s head when he pulls one of his stupid stunts.

3.  I am reading the second book of the Hunger Games trilogy Catching Fire and it is truly wonderful.  All I can think as I’m reading this story is that Katniss Everdeen would kick not only Bella Swan’s butt but also Edward Cullen’s and she’d have time to go hunting afterwards.

4.  I’m glad that my mom has good friends that look out for her but she has one friend, Anne Marie, who drives me nuts with her wishy-washy personality and “poor me” victim attitude.

5.  I hope Alex O’Loughlin’s makes a swift recovery from his addiction and that he comes back to his life healthy and stronger than ever.  I also hope the show allows Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park to step in and continue to create an excellent show that would make Alex proud.

Hunger Games is an excellent book and I think you'll enjoy it--has your niece Paige read the trilogy?

You know what, I don't honestly know. She loves Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, that sort of thing. So far she's *not* into Twilight, but I'm not sure if she's read the Hunger Games.

I love stuff about Antarctica too, and being lucky enough to live in NZ really helps as they normally fly there from here. We have some excellent museum pieces about our own Antarctic explorers.

Yay for stupid boss getting his reward at last!

I haven't read any of the Hunger Games books, but I may after I've seen the movie if it appeals any. My daughter (13) and her friends are off to see it this weekend, so I'll see what she thinks first!

Also yay for good friends of your mother, but *sigh* for the one who isn't so great.

I am completely with you on the subject of Alex. I've been thinking a lot about him (as I'm sure most of us have around here) since they announced he was going to rehab, and I'm really hoping our wishes for him come true. *hugs*

There was this great quote in the play, right after Scott and his team realize that Admunson had beaten them in the race and gotten to the South Pole first, Scott decides that they are going to immortalize their 800 mile trek across the Antarctic with a phote.

He said, "I don't expect anyone to smile but I'd appreciate it if you didn't look beaten." Even though the photo is a 100 years old, you can see clearly how brave and stoic the men were being because they didn't want to let their captain down. Breaks my heart.

ETA: I think a lot of treatment programs are at least 28 days, so we might not hear how Alex is doing until the beginning of April.

They were amazing, weren't they? That photo sounds so cool.

And yeah, I figured about Alex. It's hard - I feel like I'm counting down with him! (assuming he is; it's hard to imagine he's not). *hugs*
