I hope all of the Moms on my flist have a lovely day!

I gave my mom her Mother's Day gift yesterday:  we went to see the ballet Peter Pan at the Academy of Music and then we went to dinner at Moriarty's.  My mom hoped that Sherlock and John wouldn't be too angry at us for eating there :)

The ballet was cool--there was a pirate ship and a big plush crocodile walked across the stage after he ate Captain Hook :)  But there was a disturbing part where all of the aduls in the show--Peter's nanny and Mr. and Mrs. Darling-- wore masks.  I wonder what that's supposed to mean?

We did have gorgeous weather, the train ride down was non-eventful and the walk through town was lovely as well.  All in all, we had a wonderful time and my mom loved the entire day. WOO HOO :)

Awww, what a great way to spend the day with your mom- celebrating the joys of childhood!

Peter Pan is my all-time favorite story ever, and has been since I was a kid myself. My dear dad actually took me EIGHTEEN times to see the Disney movie at the theater (that's some dedication right there). The ballet version sounds really cool, though! Maybe the masks were supposed to be a metaphor for how grown-ups can't be themselves anymore, or act the way they feel- hence, always having to "wear a mask", the burden Peter and the children were trying to avoid? That's my nickel's worth of psychology from college. ;-)

Anyway, so glad you and your mom had a fun day together! She sounds awesome- just like her daughter. *g*

Peter Pan is a great story and I appreciate the version they came up with for the ballet. And I think you're right about the adults wearing masks because they had to "grow up" and hide their true selves. And yes, my mom is awesome :)

And I know this must have been a tough day for you--Good for you for remembering the good times. *HUGS* to you and your family.

"And I know this must have been a tough day for you--Good for you for remembering the good times."

Aww, thanks. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad at all. I think it's because my mom gave me so many great memories that it's hard to think of her and be sad. Mostly I crack up when I think of her. She was a Peter Pan herself. I remember a day about ten years ago when we were walking through the zoo, and my mother (who is in her fifties at this point) decides to *climb a tree*. She tells me so, I look at her like she's nuts, and she shimmies up the tree like a freaking monkey. When she's up the tree, I start to get nervous and yell, "Get down, you're going to hurt yourself!" And she smirks, "Come up and make me." (Which I couldn't do, because I suck at climbing trees and she KNEW IT!) *sigh*

So see, it's hard to do anything but smile when you think of someone like that. I am sure she is cracking up people in Heaven as we speak. :-)
